Turkey strives to get rid of Azerbaijan’s influence
Armenian-Turkish initialed protocols do not contain any preconditions, shared his opinion at today’s press-conference head of Armenian Political Scientists Union Amayak Hovhannisyan underlining that these documents’ signing reflects Armenia’s interests more than Turkey’s.
Mr. Hovhannisyan expressed confidence that Turkey’s Parliament will ratify the protocols although there are forces in Turkey, like in Armenia, too, which oppose to it.
According to the analyst, these forces propose preconditions for establishing ties, thus providing an alternative view on Armenian-Turkish settlement. On his opinion, there is a danger in “Heritage” Party’s proposal of a referendum because it will determine a sophisticated situation in the country if society votes for ratification against expectations. This will complicate relation between Armenia and Diaspora, which is Ankara’s aim.
Establishing Armenian-Turkish relations Turkey is trying to join the European Family and get free from Azerbaijan’s influence.
“Turkey agrees to stop concessions to Azerbaijan if Armenia in its turn stops concessions to Diaspora.”
According to Mr.Hovhannisyan Armenian Diaspora should be sensitive to the importance of Armenian-Turkish border opening.
Don’t forget that there is an old Diaspora and a new one. For about 2 million Armenians live nowadays in Russia and are ready for investments.
Speaking about protocols he noted that they mean only diplomatic relations’ establishment and lifting of blockade. The documents don’t have a word on border recognition; however concerns on Genocide recognition failure grow.
The analyst thinks that if Armenian-Turkish border opens Armenia will escape deadlock in which it turned up.
“If the border is reopened and Kars-Gyumri route start acting, then big investments are expected in Armenia-Iran connection, and we’ll definitely become a transit country,” said Mr.Hovhannisyan noting that Turkey doesn’t have such problems because its borders with all other neighbors are open.
