Psychologist and sociologist about suicide
371 cases of suicide and attempted suicide were recorded in the first six months of 2010 in Armenia, what exceeds previous year’s index by 25.8%.
Psychologist Karine Nalchajyan commenting upon the mentioned statistics said that suicide is aging in Armenia; unemployed people and pensioners mostly commit suicide in Armenia (more than 46 percent of the general number of suicide committers), while this age is mostly 18-25 abroad.
According to Nalchajyan, cases of suicide are more frequent in European countries where a person is not completely integrated to society. She added that only 25 percent suicide committers suffer from a mental illness.
In return, sociologist Hayk Sahakyan said that one year is not enough to establish suicide dynamics. He also confirmed the thought that person’s integration to society reduces the danger of suicide.
