Armenians meet the New Year in clean house and with modest table
The Armenian traditional New Year has started with cleaning the house, the apartments, the environment and parallel with it the body and the soul of the human is being purified. The people were tended to be fashionable on New Year day. The demographist Rafael Nahapetyan said on the meeting with the journalist and added that the perception of the new was connected with the successful beginning of the year and its duration.
The demographist mentioned that the January 1 corresponds with the period of Fasting and in difference with the present plentiful ceremonies the festive table in the past has been modest.
"The main components of the festive meal were conditioned with plant, particularly, grain dishes. 7 kinds of grains were chosen; mainly beans, peas, lentil, etc,” Rafael Nahapetyan informed.
According to the speaker, on the festive table was put qufta, lenten dolma, which have been considered to be the most magnificent food on New Year, as well as mayramachash which was also prepared of the grains. The tables were decorated with various fruits.
