Serzh Sargsyan to be first passenger of flight to Artsakh
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will be the first passenger of the flight from Yerevan to Nagorno Karabakh capital Stepanakert.
“As President of the Republic of Armenia, I will be the first passenger of this flight,” Serzh Sargsyan told a joint press conference with Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey.
“The people of Nagorno Karabakh certainly has the right to use airspace. However, it’s clear that the authorities of Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia need to make efforts to coordinate this issue with relative structures. We hope for positive results,” the President said.
Commenting upon Azerbaijan’s statements on its intention to shoot down civil aircrafts en route to Nagorno Karabakh, S. Sargsyan said:
“Similar statements are not something new, they have been constantly voiced in modern history and they were not few. However, terrorist organizations, not states have always made such statement. A state making such statement can be called marasmic, these are statements made by sick people. What does it mean if a state declares a possibility of shooting down civil aircrafts? I think no comment is needed in this issue,” Serzh Sargsyan said.
The new airport of Stepanakert will start working in May, 2011, after almost a 20-year interval.
The Armenian President expressed the hope that Switzerland will absolutely support Armenia in this issue.
