PM: We purchased more arms in 3 years than in preceding 20 years
The Armenian side has purchased more arms in the past 3 years than in the preceding 20 years, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said today during his visit to a military unit of the Defense Army of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
The prime minister is on a working visit to Nagorno Karabakh on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the NKR’s independence, the government press service said.
In response to a serviceman’s question about Azerbaijan’s armament and the steps taken by the Armenian side, Tigran Sargsyan said that “the first and foremost goal of the government is to ensure the security of our country”.
“This means a modern army and modern arms. In the past three years we have purchased as many arms as in the preceding 20 years. From this point of view, you can be sure that we will never allow the balance of forces to be disturbed. For this reason the process of our army’s armament is at the center of the president’s attention,” the prime minister said.
He stressed that Armenia’s strategic partners have made their contribution to the armament process. Addressing the servicemen, the head of the government said that soldiers and their preparedness and courage are the main thing in a modern army.
“We have proved our comparative advantage in this sense. At the same time, you should understand that your behavior and courage are more important than any arms,” the Armenian prime minister declared.
On behalf of the government, he congratulated the servicemen on the 22nd anniversary of the NKR’s independence.
