Iraqi foreign minister: We want to deepen cooperation with Armenia
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met today with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari who is on an official visit to Armenia.
E. Nalbandian said that cooperation of the two countries had become more active recently, expressing hope that the Iraqi foreign minister’s visit will give impetus to bilateral cooperation in various spheres. Minister Nalbandian welcomed the reopening of the Iraqi embassy in Armenia.
Minister Zebari thanked him for the invitation to visit Yerevan and the warm reception, noting that Iraq wants to deepen cooperation with Armenia and one of his visit’s main goals is to reach agreements in that direction. H. Zebari underlined the role of the Armenian community in Iraq’s development and prosperity.
The interlocutors held a discussion regarding development of bilateral ties: promotion of the political dialog, closer cooperation in international organizations, expansion of the legal and contractual field, cooperation in various spheres such as economy, science, culture and education. The sides discussed the opportunities of visa facilitation.
At the guest’s request, E. Nalbandian presented efforts of Armenia and the international community on a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
H. Zebari informed E. Nalbandian about the Iraqi authorities’ steps aimed at ensuring stability and security in Iraq.
