Zhoghovurd: Plants operate at loss due to high gas price
Following the rise in the prices of gas and electricity, the owners of some bakeries in Yerevan and Armenia have begun complaining not only about the high price of natural gas, but also its low calorific value, ‘Zhoghovurd’ paper says.
Surik Hakobian, owner of Garni Surik Lavash bakery plant in Kotayk province, told the paper that they have operated at a loss in the last 2-3 months.
“We have so far managed to operate our bakery. Our concern now is to pay the gas bill for December. We paid the November bill with difficulty – by borrowing money. If we fail to pay for December, we will have to close the bakery,” he noted.
The director of Arev-1 bakery plant in the city of Martuni, Ghegharkunik province, had complaints about the low quality of gas. “Gas meters are installed by Gazprom Armenia Company itself. The calorific value of supplied gas is very low. What kind of meters do they use?” he said.
