Zakarian sends letter on Khojaly provocation to foreign colleagues
In connection with the 22nd anniversary of the Agdam events (Khojaly provocation) , the Chairman of the Armenian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Artak Zakarian sent a letter to chairmen of the parliamentary standing committees on foreign affairs of various states, urging them not to yield to Azerbaijan’s persistent falsification of events and anti-Armenian propaganda.
The letter says that although 22 years have passed since the tragic Agdam events, official Baku continues to distort historical facts and fan anti-Armenian hysteria on all international scenes, seeking to shift its blame onto the Karabakh side.
Addressing the Azerbaijani domestic political factors, Artak Zakarian reminded committee chairmen again that in its struggle aimed at overthrowing President Ayaz Muatlibov, the Azerbaijani Popular Front took advantage of the Karabakh self-defense forces’ forced operation on neutralization of Azerbaijani units’ gun emplacements and organized a shooting of its own people in 1992. Zakarian stressed that Mutalibov himself said that in his interview of April 2, 1992, to the Russian newspaper Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
Urging his colleagues to become acquainted with the numerous documentary facts and accounts of researchers and journalists who witnessed those tragic events, Artak Zakarian expressed hope that his parliamentary colleagues will support the fight against the distortion of the historical truth by Azerbaijan and propaganda of Armenophobia and xenophobia.
