Expert: Assad likely to be reelected if he runs for president again
The incumbent President of Syria Bashar Assad has not yet nominated himself for presidential elections due in Syria soon, Hayk Kocharian, an Arabist, said during a press conference today.
In his opinion, Bashar Assad is the preferred candidate of the Armenian community in Syria.
“The Syrian government troops have recently achieved serious success. The chemical weapons destruction process is expected to finish by the end of the month.80% of chemical weapons have been destroyed as of today,” Hayk Kocharian said.
He noted at the same time that a large part of Armenian community members support the unarmed opposition.
In any case, the Armenian community will attempt to support the force guaranteeing its security. The government forces are such a force at the moment,” the Arabist said.
