Hovik Abrahamian receives delegation of US Congressmen
Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamian received a delegation of U.S. Congressmen led by Ed Royce, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the U.S. House of Representatives, the press office of the government said.
Hovik Abrahamian thanked the Congressmen for their participation in Armenian Genocide commemoration events. The prime minister hailed the adoption of the resolution on the Genocide recognition and condemnation by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The Congressmen congratulated Hovik Abrahamian on his appointment as prime minister.
They said they considered it important to visit Yerevan on April 24 and honor the victims of the Armenian Genocide. According to Ed Royce, they express support for the Armenian people who – despite the numerous hardships - managed to preserve and develop their culture thanks to their will power and fortitude.
Stressing the importance of Armenian-US cooperation, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamian said that strengthening and promoting bilateral cooperation with the United States is one of his priorities. He thanked the American side for assistance with Armenia’s democratization, human rights protection and reforms in various spheres.
The interlocutors attached importance to the further development of bilateral economic links, stressing the need to expand bilateral trade and implement investment projects. Speaking about further programs, the prime minister said the economic policy will be aimed at promoting equal opportunities in competition.
In this connection the Congressmen noted they will assist with attraction of investments from U.S. companies.
Hovik Abrahamian informed the Congressmen about the political situation in the region and Armenia’s position on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement and the establishment of diplomatic relations with Turkey. The head of government considered it inadmissible to link Armenian-Turkish normalization with the Karabakh problem.
