Kokobelyan: Agreement on entry into EEU is challenge, not opportunity
The agreement on Armenia’s entry into the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is a challenge, rather than an opportunity, the parliamentary deputy, Free Democrats party leader Khachatur Kokobelyan said at parliamentary hearings today.
“The Customs Code of Armenia will lose effect on January 2. No information has been provided so far about the possible risks, considering the sanctions imposed on Russia. There are many questions, and we are taking an inadequate step in present-day developing world,” the deputy noted.
In his words, many businessmen hoped to gain profits of 25-30% after Armenia’s accession to EEU, but such a prospect is impossible under conditions of the Russian ruble crisis.
“Our wine and brandy manufacturers now refuse to export goods to Russia because it is impossible to understand which direction the Russian economy is moving,” Kokobelyan said.
“The question is not whether we are against Russia or support it. The question is that we want to understand which path we are following and what achievements and what problems await us,” he said.
