Memorial service held for crew of downed helicopter
A memorial service was held in Yerevan’s Saint Sargis Church today for the crew members of Mi-24 helicopter downed by Azerbaijan on November 12.
Thousands of citizens came to pay their last respects to the pilots.
Servicemen of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic carried out a special operation on November 20 to recover the body of a crew member and remains of two others from the crash site, as well as helicopter parts necessary for examination. Two Azerbaijani servicemen were killed during the operation, NKR Defense Ministry said.
The helicopter was shot down on November 12 during a training flight as part of “Unity 2014” joint military drills of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. The Armenian side could not approach the helicopter crash site in the next ten days because of incessant gunfire from the Azerbaijani side.
