President of NKR visits Fresno
President of the Republic of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan visited Fresno, California. He laid wreaths at a complex (under construction) to the Armenian Genocide victims, at the Monument to writer William Saroyan, and on the grave of Soghomon Tehlirian, a prominent figure of the Armenian national liberation movement, the presidential press service said.
On the same day Bako Sahakyan met with Armenia’s Honorary Consul Berge Abgarian and members of the local Armenian community at the Honorary Consulate.
Issues relating to the implementation of various programs in Artsakh were discussed at the meeting. The president spoke about the foreign and domestic policies of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict settlement, and regional developments. He also answered the questions of those present.
Bako Sahakyan appreciated highly the contribution of Fresno’s Armenian community to the Artsakh support cause. He said that as an important Armenian community, Fresno plays a significant role in strengthening the ties between the Homeland and the Diaspora, preservation of the Armenian national identity, and development of Armenia-US relations.
The president was accompanied by Deputy PM of NKR Arthur Aghabekyan, Armenian Ambassador to the U.S. Tigran Sargsyan, and other officials.
