Parliamentary majority blocks opposition-initiated special sitting
The parliamentary majority blocked the special sitting initiated by opposition factions of the Armenian parliament today.
The speaker Galust Sahakyan said that the non-progovernment forces collected 44 signatures to hold a sitting, but only 43 deputies were present in the hall.
“There is no quorum,” G. Sahakyan said, announcing a three-hour break.
The non-progovernment factions of the parliament earlier collected 44 signatures necessary to convene a special sitting, BHK faction member Tigran Urikhanyan told reporters.
As was reported, the opposition factions today boycotted the extraordinary session of the parliament as they demanded discussion of the assault on opposition MP Aram Manukyan.
The special sitting was scheduled for 6:00 pm.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary vice speaker Edward Sharmazanov said he would not participate in the sitting if the non-governing factions managed to collect the necessary number of signatures.
