Opposition plans to hold special session of NA to discuss financial situation
Four factions of the Armenian parliament – Heritage, Prosperous Armenia (BHK), Armenian National Congress (HAK), and Orinats Yerkir (OEK) – are trying to convene a special session of the National Assembly, the head of Heritage faction Ruben Hakobyan said at a press conference today.
“We will try to convene a special session of the parliament,” he said, noting that the grounds for holding a special session are the situation on the financial market of Armenia – the price increases, the Armenian dram’s depreciation, etc.
He stressed that the boycott by the political forces will continue until those problems are solved. He also announced that a joint sitting of opposition parliamentary forces was to be held.
The secretary of BHK faction Naira Zohrabyan said for her part that deputies-economists are working on a document that will serve as a basis for convening a special session.
“A force majeure situation emerged in the country. It has led to the population’s poverty and inflation and we believe that all the responsible sides – representatives of the Central Bank and the government of Armenia – should be present at the special session,” N. Zohrabyan said.
The MPs urged their colleagues not to try to block the planned special session of the parliament.
“It is necessary to try to find a way out, to get answers to all the questions that worry everyone. I consider as incorrect the statements that everything is allegedly due to sanctions imposed on Russia,” the deputy said.
Naira Zohrabyan found it difficult to say whether ARF-Dashnaktsutyun will participate in the initiative, but she stressed that ARFD also received an offer. “ARFD for its part wrote a text for a joint statement which is inadmissible to OEK and the troika of non-governing parties,” she said.
