Outgoing US Ambassador John Heffern meets Armen Ashotyan
Armenian Minister of Education and Sceince Armen Ashotyan met with U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John A. Heffern who is completing his diplomatic mission in Armenia. The sides discussed a number of issues of mutual interest concerning Armenian-American cooperation in the field of education, Ministry of Education and Science said.
The minister thanked the U.S. ambassador for the American side’s assistance with the implementation of several programs in Armenia’s education sphere during his tenure. He stressed in particular the technical assistance provided to Armenian universities, the participation of Armenian pupils in FLEX program, and consistent efforts towards the protection of children’s rights and de-politicization of universities.
Noting that education is an important area of cooperation, the ambassador inquired about next year’s educational programs and the ongoing educational reforms in Armenia, wishing success.
The interlocutors also discussed the prospects of Armenian-American cooperation in education, particularly the new educational programs aimed at developing the labor market, and the opportunities of technical upgrading of universities and enhancing the competitiveness of ICT sector.
