Expert: Baku’s reaction evidence of disproportionate Armenian response
“Azerbaijan’s military-political elite is trying to save face before the international community for the downing of an Armenian helicopter on the Line of Contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan and for the wise restraint shown by the Armenian side in response,” expert Bagrat Movsisyan wrote on Facebook. In his opinion, instead of admitting its mistakes and informing its public about numerous and senseless casualties among its soldiers, the Azerbaijani defense ministry once again edited in its own way a statement of an Armenian official.
“The head of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s press service Colonel Bagif Daryakhly recently decided to edit in his own way the statement of Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan to the effect that the Azerbaijani side got a fitting response to its adventure. The Azerbaijani ministry spokesman was displeased that Armenia’s defense minister said the response actions were not to be released publicly yet and that he promised that the public would be informed if necessary. The notion of a military secret and non-disclosure of important information as well as transparency of actions of the national armed forces is alien to the Azerbaijani army devoid of military traditions.
To distract public attention from numerous casualties among its servicemen and redirect the international community’s attention, the Azerbaijani defense ministry spokesman followed the usual path of the local propaganda machine – to distort facts and replace characters. The Azerbaijani colonel even mentioned that Armenia’s defense minister made that statement at the 2014 final consultation, while no such consultation was held so far and the minister simply talked to reporters.
In reality, one can say with certainty even from the reaction of Baku officials that the response was disproportionate and the Azerbaijani defense ministry is trying to hide the losses. They certainly know the outcome of that response, while the Armenian side does not reveal it due to inexpediency and Azerbaijani websites are full of information about ‘accidents’. Baku cannot accept the fact that it failed to impose its scenario on the Armenian side and now it has to pay for its conduct. The propaganda machine of the current regime once again followed the path of fooling their people”.
