Armenia makes about 1000 claims to European Court
600 claims among all those presented to European court of Human Rights against Armenia have been made by Azerbaijan, said the judge of European court of Human Rights Alvina Gyulumyan. She also said that almost as many claims have been made against Azerbaijan by residents of Artsvashen, Baku and Armenian villages under Azeri jurisdiction.
A. Gyulumyan explained that jurisprudence of European court is implemented for EU 47 members and their 800 million residents. So, the court receives claims from all these countries (the number of claims now is about 100 thousand), and after receiving the claim at least 3-4 years are required for the claims to undergo trial.
Besides, the claims referring to a given country undergo trial when the country presents a judge. According to Gyulumyan, these are the main causes why cases concerning Armenia have started to undergo trial only during the last 2 years.
A. Gyulumyan pointed out that the number of claims presented by Armenia has decreased during the last two years. The judge explained this by impatience of Armenians and said that many people don’t want to wait for several years for the case to undergo trial. Besides, a number of claims have not been admitted as they had not been examined by all court instances of Armenia.
Gyulumyan couldn’t say what content or demand the claims made against Armenia in 2008 have. She said that it will be possible to get some information about them when the claims get to the Committee or Chamber.
A. Gyulumyan made it clear that the court verifies violation of human rights and makes verdict and the verdict is carried out by Committee of EU ministers.
