Groundhog bites the Mayor of New York City
Yesterday in Staten Island Zoo a groundhog bit Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York City. The groundhog Charles G. Hogg bit the blood out of mayor as during the Groundhog Day traditional festivities the latter took it in his hands, lenta.ru reports.
Groundhog Day is an annual holiday celebrated on February 2 in the United States and Canada on which folklore tells if a groundhog emerges from its burrow and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If on the other hand, it is sunny and the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks.
Despite the injury, Bloomberg went on with the festivity tying up his hand with a handkerchief, the source reports.
The zoo workers assure that there is no risk of getting rabies as the groundhog never contacted other animals.
