UN International Court has new staff
Japanese Hissasi Ovada has been elected as UN International Court Chairman, France Presse reports.
76-year-old Ovada has taken over British Judge Rosalyn Hyggins. 52-year-old Slovak Judge Peter Tomka has been elected as the Deputy Chairman.
Note that the elections for the Hague International Court Judge and Deputy Judge are held every three years by secret ballot. All 15 judges of UN International Court take part in the ballot.
Hissasi Ovada has been a judge in UN International Court since 2003. Since 2001 he has been a standing member of International arbitration tribunal. In 1994-98 he was the Standing representative of Japan to UNO. He has graduated from Harvard University, the Faculty of Law.
UN International Court deals with the cases risen among states as well as makes advisory verdicts followed by the request of UN General Assembly and UN Security Council.
