President of Sudan to stand trial in International Criminal Court
The International Criminal Court in the Hague has claimed to detain the President of Sudan Omar al-Bashir, pravda.ru reports referring to «The New York Times».
No information has been reported on what al-Bashir is being charged with. This may be because the information on detainment permission has not been officially claimed yet.
Earlier the Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court in the Hague Luis Moreno-Okampo had charged al-Bashir with carrying out genocide, military crimes as well as offences carried out towards humanity. Moreno-Okampo requested to detain the President of Sudan still in July, 2008.
Al-Bashir is being charged with offences somehow connected with the conflict arisen in Darfur, Sudan in 2003. The Black tribes in Darfur demanded the Arabic Government to grant them further independence and this brought about clash between the military forces of Sudan and the tribes. More than 300 thousand black fell victim to military activities carried out by the authorities in Sudan.
