Georgia brings action into ECHR against Russia
The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association has brought 49 suits to European Court of Human Rights. The claims have been based on the cases of 340 peaceful civilians who suffered in South Ossetia in August, 2008.
«The cases include violation of human rights of life and property, as well as illegal detainments of people and holding them as hostages», Tamar Khidasheli, the President of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association said.
«Some of the civilians fell victim to cruelty and humiliation. Majority of houses in Big and Small Liakhava have been burnt», she added.
