Catholic journalists are allowed to use «Allah»
Malaysian court has allowed Catholic paper to use the word «Allah», AFP reports.
Malaysian authorities banned Catholic papers to use «Allah» as it is a threat to national security and it is an insult to Islam. However, the court made a verdict in favor of «The Herald» periodical in a suit where Malaysian authorities claimed to deprive the periodical of publishing right.
Father Lawrence Andrew explained in court that Catholics have many times used the word «Allah», as a translation of «God».
Note that, 60% of Malaysian 27-million population are Muslims.Others are Catholics and Buddhists.
