Sudanese president charged with genocide
The Hague International Criminal Court has filed genocide charges against Sudan's president Omar Basir for a five-year campaign of violence. The Court has issued an arrest warrant for President Omar Hassan al-Bashir to prevent the deaths of about 2.5 million people forced from their homes in the war-torn region of Darfur.
The EU has urged Sudan's Government to cooperate with the International Criminal Court, Interfax reports.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has addressed the Sudanese authorities over cooperation with the Hague court, confirming the legitimacy of the International Criminal Court as an independent judicial body.
However, Sudanese authorities think, Sudan is beyond the Hague International Criminal Court legitimacy. The League of Arab States has pledged to support Sudanese President.
