FIDE Grand Prix rating list issued: Aronian ranks third
FIDE Grand Prix 2008-2009 new rating list has been issued. Russian Alexander Grischuk and Azerbaijani Teymour Radjabov lead with 363,33 points. Armenian GM Levon Aronian ranks third with 360 points.
The Azerbaijani player’s result is higher than that of the Armenian player for 3,33 points. The former, anyway, has participated in three tournaments, one of which was held in Baku. Here he shared 8-10 horizontals with 60 points.
The next FIDE Grand Prix tournament is due in Yerevan on August 8-24. Once Aronian manages to win again, he will gain the title of the winner of the series and will be provided possibility to participate in the contender tournament. In Yerevan tournament, however, Aronian will have serious opponents, particularly the Russian Dmitry Jakovenko and the Hungarian Peter Leko. The grandmasters have aslo participated in two tournaments and in case they succeed, they may also appear in the contender tournament. Only the best two players of Grand Prix series will be able to participate in the tournament.
The final FIDE Grand Prix tournament is due December 7-23. As to where the tournament will be held, is unclear yet.
