VivaCell-MTS launches new services
VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralf Yirikyan introduced at a press conference toady a number of new services the cell operator offers.
The commercial launch of 3G (third generation) network was first made by ArmenTel, another Armenian cell operator, in Yerevan, in September, 2008, anyway, Vivacell-MTS is first to launch it in the cities of Gyumri and Vanadzor, R. Yirikyan said. Launch of the 3G UMTS*/HSPA** network marks the beginning of a new stage in the development of telecommunications in Armenia allowing all VivaCell-MTS subscribers to enjoy state-of-the-art mobile broadband technology. According to the general manager, the second phase of the network will be over by the end of the year and it will be available not only in Yerevan, Vanadzor and Gyumri, but in the whole republic.
Ralf Yirikyan said, VivaCell-MTS subscribers now can learn about the exact time of arrivals and departures at “Zvartnots” airport directly from their mobile phone.
A novelty is also that the subscribers can now visit the Wikipedia encyclopedia website from their cell phones. As R. Yirikyan noted, international football news is also available at VivaCell-MTS website.
R. Yirikyan welcomed Orange, the third cell operator into the sphere of telecommunications in Armenia and said it is going to have a positive impact on the market, both from the viewpoint of economy and the working places. He also signified the new offers to be introduced into the market and the increase of competition.
