Football: Egypt team robbed at Confed Cup
Egypt's historic win over Italy in the Confederations Cup has been marred after thieves stole cash belonging to Egyptian players from their hotel rooms on Thursday night, according to news website Monstersandcritics.com, Goal.com says.
It is said striker Mohamed Zidan and several other players discovered cash was missing when they returned to the hotel after their 1-0 victory over the World Champions. There has not been any official comment on the reports yet, but it is claimed officials have reported the crime to the police.
The damages could rise into thousands as it is said a substantial amount of cash was stolen, though there are no precise figures as to how much the thieves got away with.
The incident is alleged to have taken place while the squad were at the Ellis Park stadium during their group B clash with the Azzurri. Egypt triumphed when Mohamed Homo's only goal of the game gave Hassan Shehata's men a deserved victory.
That result leaves the African side with a good chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. They play the USA on Sunday in their final Group B match. The team moved to Rustenburg on Friday morning.
