No progress in NK negotiating process unless formula is restored
President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakyan met in Yerevan Armenia-Marriott Hotel the OSCE Chairperson-in- Office, Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis Thursday. The meeting was followed by NKR President’s briefing.
President Sahakyan answered the questions of journalists and dwelt on the talks held with the OSCE Chairperson-in- Office Dora Bakoyannis.
As B. Sahakyan said, the main issue raised was the ongoing stage of the negotiations over the regulation of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “We raised suggestions, and of course, the Chairperson-in-Office expressed her views both on the suggestions made and the negotiating process,” NKR President said.
Referring to the issue whether NKR President was not against that official Yerevan was leading the talks over Artsakh conflict, President said:
“The Republic of Armenia makes hard efforts and the Armenian authorities in power have spoken about the measures taken by the Armenian Foreign Ministry.”
President reminded that Armenian Foreign Minister had called a press conference at the beginning of the 2009 year and had referred to the ways to be taken.
“Minister Nalbandian then noted that the Armenian Foreign Ministry will not spare efforts to resume the formula of the negotiating process, in accordance with which Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is due to participate in the negotiating process,” NKR President said. He claimed that currently the Armenian authorities and the Foreign Ministry do their best to restore the actual formula of the negotiating process.
“Only after the formula is restored, we can expect serious progress in the negotiating process,’ Bako Sahakyan highlighted.
As long as the NKR party is missing in the process, no serious changes can be expected either this or the following year, President said.
As B. Sahakyan said, Dora Bakoyannis had seemed to be optimistic as far as this issue is concerned.
“Both the Chairperson-in-Office and the Co-chairs have noted in their statements that serious progress in the negotiations is impossible but with the participation of all the parties in it,” NKR President said. According to him, the Armenian party has made a request to the OSCE to make use of its liabilities to restore the formula.
