Armenia to resume its role as transit country
“The conception of the South-North railway and highway projects was made by the German- Austrian “ILF” company. Being a transit country in the past, Armenia tries to resume the role 20 years later,” Armenian Minister for Transport and Communication G. Sargsyan said in an interview with the Armenian H2 TV channel.
Mr. Sargsyan said the highway will stretch from Megri through the whole territory of Armenia – Yerevan, Gyumri, Bavra, and will reach to the Georgian cities of Batumi and Poti. “The project is of regional significance to ensure the connection of the Persian Gulf, India, China, the Middle East to the Black Sea harbors through Armenia,” the minister added. According to him, the railway will be stretching from the Iranian border to Bagratashen, Georgian border, then to Poti and Batumi harbors through the Georgian territory.
