Crime increase in RA

“During the first six months of this year the level of crime has increased. And I treat this cold-heartedly. 6849 crimes were registered instead of the 3998 cases of the last year. More than a 71% raise was recorded which resulted in a more intense work for disclosing the cases”. Today the head of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, Alik Sargsyan introduced the reporters the summery of the work done in the first months in 2009.

There are 4 reasons for the increase of the crime level. According to Sargsyan, the first reason is the social conditions, then the registration of the cases in police, which were dismissed on the materials based on private claims. It also produced the raise in the number: nearly 1324 cases were dismissed on the materials, and 134 criminal cases were quashed.

“The third reason is the latent crime: the economic crimes, the circulation of weapons and drugs. The number of these crimes has also risen. The last reason is the ill practice of concealing the registration of crimes, this exists throughout the whole history”,-mentioned Alik Sargsyan.

According to the head of the police, 10% raise was registered in all the spheres, but the murders: 6 cases less was registered.

“A raise was also registered in narcotic addiction: 540 cases in comparison with the 384 of the last year. No talks about the delivery of drugs: 228 cases compared with 107. Further we will face more risky cases, 329 people were called to account. And about illegal weapon circulation I just want to mention that 803 fire-arms were handed in”, - said A. Sargsyan, adding that there are still many illegal weapons and he is not avoiding the coming quantity.

Also the head of the police mentioned the raise of the number of disclosures: 84.7% instead of the 75 %.

“The efforts cannot be considered good. There is much to be done. But I want to remind that disclosing the cases is not just the matter of police, society should also take part in this”, - stated A. Sargsyan.
