Armenian team to fight for bronze

Armenian men’s team lost 1.5-2.5 to Russian team in round eight of the 17th Team Chess Championship in Novi Sad, Serbia. Gabriel Sargsyan drew with Dmitry Yakovenko. Levon Aronyan-Peter Swidler set ended in draw. Tigran Petrosyan drew with Evgeny Tomashewsky. Vladimir Hakobyan, unfortunately, lost to Aleksander Morozevich.

Tournament’s another leader, Azerbaijani team, won 3:1 over Poland and is now among top-seeded teams on 13 points. Russia seeded first, on one point ahead Azerbaijani team. Armenia on 11 points seeded 3-7 alongside with teams of Ukraine, Holland, Spain, and Israel.

Today in last round Russia will meet with Spain’s team, Azerbaijanis will play against Holland. It seems the most important determining factor will become just a score while in these pairings it is quite clear who is closer to champ title.

Armenian team failed to take gold or silver and can only fight for bronze. At today’s pairing with Switzerland’s team Armenians should seek to win because Ukrainian team is half-point ahead.
