SCR Company talks with government on ‘national’ status
South Caucasus Railways Company has proposed to adopt its status of a ‘national company’. “This status of an Armenian national company with its providing of entering the global transport sphere and freight companies like Convention on International Carriage by Rail (CICR) and Organization of Railways Cooperation (ORC) will empower cooperation and relations with other rail-companies of neighboring countries. It will also create a gainful platform for investments and will promote Armenia’s interests,” said South Caucasus Railways Company’s director Shevket Shaydullin.
“Great developments and happenings that came to South Caucasus region, especially, subjects of borders’ opening and projected Armenia-Iran railway, may materially change internal and external spheres of Armenia’s economy including increase of a role of railway connections in political and economical fields. With this connection, Armenia’s railways become a transit link between Europe-Asia and North-South. We consider it real to turn a railway into determinative factor for economical development and its entering the foreign markets. These objectives may come true if we cooperate with the government,” said Shevket Shaydullin.
A spokesman of SCR Company’s press office said this matter was voiced by Shevket Shaydullin at the session of the Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between Armenia’s Federal Assembly and Armenia’s National Assembly. The session was held on November 9 and its participants verbally approved the proposal to adopt South Caucasus Railways Company’s status of a ‘national company’.
