Levon Aronyan defeated Vishvanatan Anand
The Tal Memorial tournament ended in Moscow. In the last tour Armenian Grand Master Levon Aronyan took a victory over the world champion Vishvanatan Anand and ended the tournament with a high mood. Taking into consideration that our Armenian chess player played badly during the whole tournament his awakening in the 9th round was really surprising.
The Norwegian Magnus Carlsen took a victory over Peter Leco. Ruslan Ponomariov took victory over Alexander Morozevich. Vasili Ivanchuk – Vladimir Kramnik and Pyoter Svidler and Boris Gelfan ended in draw.
As a result the former world champion Vladimir Kramnik recived 6 points and was announced the winner of the tournament. Kramnik tends to appear in the list of the world champions. Forthis he has got only one chance, the rating scale. He simply needs to be in the number of the two best chess champions not counting of course Veseli Topalov and Levon Aronyan who have already gained the permit, as well as the world champion Vishvanatan Anand. By the way the 18 years old Norwegian Magnus Carlsen entered into the history by this tournament as he became the youngest chess Grandmaster in the world who is leading the rating scale. For Kramnik now the most important thing is keeping the positions not allowing his rival Azerbaijani Vugar Hashimov reach him.
In the Tal Memorial tournament Ivanchuk and Carlsen shared the 2-3rd positions with 5,5 points each. They were followed by Aronyan and Anand with 5 points each. In the 6th place was Gelfand with 4.5 points. Ponomaryov received 8 points and Svidlyer 3.5 points. The tournament ended Leco and Morozevich with 3 points each.
