Mehmet Ali Agca to be released 28 years after shooting Pope
Mehmet Ali Agca, Turkish assassin who shot and wounded Pope John Paul II on May 13, 1981, is to be released from a Turkish prison in January after 28 years in Italian and Turkish jails.
Mehmet Ali Agca, a member of the right-wing extremist Turkish organisation the Grey Wolves, served nearly 20 years of a life sentence at high-security prisons in Italy after he shot Pope John Paul in St Peter's Square. Years later, the Pope met with the terrorist in his Italian jail cell and forgave the man who tried to kill him.
Now some media are seeking to interview Mehmet Ali Agca. Reports said an American television channel will pay $2 million to have a chance to interview him first.
