UN Police search for escaped from quake-hit Haiti’s prisons
The UN and Haitian police are searching for those who escaped from prisons which were destroyed after a terrible earthquake hit the Caribbean ireland last week, on January 12.
UN peacekeeping chief Alain Le Roy said Monday that UN and Haitian police units had been coordinating their efforts to find and arrest prisoners.
Haitian officials said local police had suffered heavy losses in the quake and could not cope with the criminal situation in the country on its own. A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Haiti last week destroying most buildings, and leaving at least 50,000 people dead and its numbers may increase by 200 thousands.
