Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize award money goes to…
U.S. President Barack Obama is donating $1.4 million from his Nobel Peace Prize award money to 10 charities as he promised when he was honored last year.
Obama said is giving a total of $750,000 to six groups which help students, veterans' families, and survivors of Haiti's earthquake.
"These organizations do extraordinary work in the U.S. and abroad helping students, veterans and countless others in need," Barack Obama said. "I'm proud to support their work."
$250,000 goes to Fisher House, where families of military personnel wounded in war stay. The Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund that helps victims of the January earthquake gets $200,000.
$125,000 will be directed to: College Summit; the Posse Foundation; the United Negro College Fund; the Hispanic Scholarship Fund; the Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation, and the American Indian College Fund. AfriCare and the Central Asia Institute will get $100,000.
