Athens: mass riots and clashes, unions protest austerity package
Hundreds of Greeks gathered in central Athens on Tuesday evening to protests against austerity measures by government.
Greek state power company workers and hospital nurses went on strike, protesting government’s austerity measures designed to pull the country out of a major financial crisis.
County’s unions have reacted angrily against announced 4.8 billion euro austerity package and held two large demonstrations in central Athens this month. The Tuesday’s rally was marred by protesters clashing with police, when demonstrators marched to Parliament, carrying banners reading “We won’t Pay for the Crisis” and “Withdraw the Measures.”
