Ergenekon Case: dozens detained in Turkey
Turkish police detained Thursday around 20 people, included retired and active military officers, in connection to an alleged plot to topple the Islamist-rooted government, state media reported.
Detentions took place in eight cities, including Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, and the operation is still going on.
More than 200 people, among them retired generals, lawyers and journalists, have been arrested in connection to Ergenekon, prompting the European Union to warn Turkey last month "not to allow legal proceedings to be used as a pretext to exert undue pressure on critical journalists, academics or opposition politicians.''
Many believe that Ergenekon investigation is a government plot to suppress the opposition.
