Georgian opposition to sue at law against ‘Imedi’ and Saakashvili
Georgia’s opposition is preparing a lawsuit against county’s President Mikheil Saakashvili and Imedi channel’s director Georgy Arveladze, who approved a fake reportage, played out on March 13 on Georgian television about Russian invasion of the country and killing of Georgia’s President.
Media quoted ex-premier Zurab Nogaideli, leader of oppositional For Fair Georgia Movement, who said that they are preparing a lawsuit by next week. Zurab Nogaideli demanded the Imedi channel to apologize to those politicians, who were shown as traitors in the report. Oppositional Party, led by Nino Burjanadze, ex-speaker of Georgia, is also preparing a lawsuit.
People Party’s leader Coba Davitashvili said that the key point for accusing is not only a reporting about ‘traitors’, but the fact that the report caused widespread panic in the country and posed health risk.
Imedi channel’s fake reportage about Russian attack on Georgia was criticized and condemned by Ambassadors of France, US, and UK. They pointed that such kind of ‘reportage’ goes wrong with norms of journalism.
