Azerbaijan added to money laundering blacklist
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has blacklisted Azerbaijan and Ukraine as posing risks to the international financial system, according to report by Turan agency.
Among other blacklisted countries in the review to be delivered to banks and other financial structures are Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Greece, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Morocco, Burma, Nepal, Nigeria, Paraguay, Syria, Sudan, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
This list is an addition to the existing one with Angola, the People's Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Ecuador and Ethiopia, named as jurisdictions that have not committed to the FATF’s action plan and the international anti-money laundering and countering terrorist financing standards.
The Financial Action Task Force is an inter-governmental body whose purpose is the development and promotion of policies, both at national and international levels, to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. FATF’s blacklisting is a respond to a call by G-20 to fight against terrorist financing and money laundering.
