The British taxman got Degas statue
In Britain a bronze statue by impressionist Edgar Degas has been donated to the nation in lieu of a £175,000 in inheritance tax, the BBC reports.
“Dancer Looking at the Sole of Her Right Foot” was handed over under the Acceptance In Lieu scheme.
Culture Minister Margaret Hodge said the scheme had been "saving beautiful works of art and precious items from our heritage for 100 years," the source tells.
