Turkey, Russia may lift visa regime
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that visa regime between Turkey and Russia may be lifted during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Ankara in May, Russian media quoted Erdogan, citing local news agencies.
Currently, travel visits for Russian citizens, who are used to traveling to Turkey, one of the most popular holiday destinations for the Russians, require a simplified visa-application process. Issue to lift the visa regime with Russia was discussed during the January Erdogan’s visit to Moscow. Then parties reached an agreement to prepare a document on visa-free regime between the two countries.
“Chances are that we will sign with Mr Medvedev an agreement on strategic cooperation and will lift the visa regime between the two countries,” said Erdogan, speaking in Sarajevo’s University. He pointed that the decision will show ‘mutual trust’ between the two leading trade and economical partners.
“Who would ever have thought that Russia and Turkey may lift visa regime?” said Erdogan, adding that Ankara has lifted visa regime with 25 countries over past seven and a half years.
