Dozens of world leaders gather in Washington for huge Summit
The U.S. capital is gearing up for Nuclear Security Summit, hosting by country’s President Barack Obama. Obama opens a summit on nuclear security Monday with dozens of world leaders scheduled to attend. Summit’s key issue is to enhance international cooperation in preventing nuclear terrorism, a danger that Obama has identified as the most immediate and extreme threat to global security. He has invited more than 40 nations to participate, except North Korea and Iran, who were not invited to the Summit, although both of the nations’ nuclear programs are to be discussed.
Within the framework of the Summit Barack Obama will meet on Monday with Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, and leaders of Jordan, Malaysia, and China, according to announcements by the White House spokesperson.
The Summit’s participants are expected to offer their condolences to the Polish nation in relation to the tragic death of the political leadership of Poland in a plane crash, in which Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, and dozens of country’s political leaders died early on Saturday.
