Poland bids farewell to Lech Kaczynski and his wife
A huge crowd of mourners gathered Tuesday in front of the Presidential Palace in Polish capital Warsaw to pay tribute to late Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, who were killed in a plane crash at a western Russian airport early Saturday when they along-side with dozens of nation’s other top officials were traveling to Russia for the 70th anniversary of the massacre of about 20,000 Polish officers, committed in the village of Katyn during WW2.
Bodies of Lech Kaczynski and his wife will lie in state this week to allow people to pay their last respects to country’s leader.
The funeral of the presidential couple is scheduled for Saturday, Jacek Sasin, minister in the presidential chancellery, told journalists. “Everyone will be able to pay their respects to the president. The coffin will be placed in the Palace chapel,” he said on Monday.
