Azerbaijan: 40 opposition protesters arrested
Nearly 40 people were arrested in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku after the country’s police prevented them from holding a rally.
According to reports by Caucasian Knot agency, protester were planning to gather in front of the City of Baku to claim freedom of assembles. Protesters were marching by the metro station, when they were arrested by police officers in civilian clothes.
It’s worth mentioning that the failed rally was to be held today, on April 14, as its holding on April 6 was cancelled.
In their reports on the democracy and realization of human rights in Azerbaijan numerous organisation, including the US State Department and PACE, have referred to this continuous acts of suppression of freedom by the Azerbaijani government.
