BRIC Summit to have talks on Iranian nuclear program
The BRIC Summit, involving Brazil, Russia, India and China, has started its work with focus on measures against post-crisis situation, fight against terrorism, climate changes, settlement in the Middle East, the situation in quake-hit Haiti, and the nuclear program of Iran.
"Brazil, Russia, India and China have a fundamental role in the construction of a fairer international order," the summit's host, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said at the press conference.
The parties are also expected to design a common approach ahead of the upcoming meeting that will take place in late-April in Washington, gathering together the G20 ministers of finance and banks’ directors.
The second-ever BRIC summit will last a day instead of reported two days, as President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao has to leave Brazil for China to participate in the rescuer operations in quake-hit regions of the country.
World leaders, including presidents of Brazil, Russia, and India extended their sympathies to Hu and the Chinese people after an earthquake struck northwestern China Wednesday, killing 760 people.
