Barack Obama to attend funeral for Lech Kaczynski
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to take part in a memorial service in Poland for late Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria Kaczynska and 94 other victims of last weekend’s plane crash.
U.S. President Barack Obama will join the leaders of Russia, France and other nations at the state funeral, which will take place in Krakow. Krakow Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz said that bodies of Kaczynski and his wife will then be carried in a procession across Krakow's old town for burial in a crypt at the 1,000-year-old Wawel Cathedral.
Polish delegation, involving Lech Kaczynski, his wife and country’s numerous top officials, died in a plane crash on their way to Russia, where events timed to the 70th anniversary of the massacre of about 20,000 Polish officers, committed in the village of Katyn during WW2, were scheduled.
