Turkey denies rumors of giving a shelter to Bakiyev
The information about Kyrgyzstan’s ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s departure to Turkey is false, some media reported, citing Turkish foreign ministry and local reportages. The Turkish Embassy in Bishkek also denied that Bakiyev would fly to Turkey, Interfax said. However, the Turkish officials haven’t yet made a statement on the issue.
It’s worth mentioning that Kyrgyzstan’s interim government said it had received a resignation letter by fax, while Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s brother Akhmad Bakiyev said the document was a forgery.
At the invitation of Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Kyrgyz interim government’s first vice-premier Almazbek Atambayev paid a visit to Turkey on Thursday. The parties discussed items of cooperation between the nations, and issue of providing Kyrgyzstan with a financial support.
Press Office of the Turkish state administration released a statement, following the meeting between Abdullah Gul and Almazbek Atambayev. “As before, Turkey is ready to offer to brotherly Kyrgyz nation its financial and moral support and backing,” said in the statement.
