Anand-Topalov match canceled
The World Championship match between World Champion Viswanathan Anand and Challenger Veselin Topalov has been cancelled for a day, FIDE deputy president Georgius Makropoulos told a press conference today. The decision on postponing the match was made upon Anan’d request. The Indian chess player couldn’t arrive in Sofia by plane, due to the Icelandic volcano eruption, and, hence, had to take a drive to Bulgaria.
Thus, the match is due April 24. The opning ceremony, however, will be held today, as scheduled, ITAR-TASS reported.
