British Prime Minister Brown plans to step down in September
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is set to step down in September, he announced on Monday.
"I have no desire to stay in my position longer than is needed to ensure that the path to economic growth is secured," NY Daily News quoted him as saying.
This statement was made marking the electoral mess that began last week following Thursday's inconclusive elections. The Liberal Democrats, who came in third, have been in intense talks with the Conservatives, who won the most seats but fell short of the majority needed to Parliament to form a new government.
Gordon Brown said he wants the Labor Party to govern in coalition with the Liberal Democrats, and he will step down in September if that happens.
